Arts & Culture LEADERSHIP
“Culture is not something we fight or fix; it is something we tend together. Culture care is the slow, generative work of cultivating spaces where life can grow, beauty can emerge, and communities can flourish.”
Makoto Fujimura
My vision
I believe that artists are pioneers who have a crucial role in shaping the cultures of today and of tomorrow. I often use the metaphor of a ship moving through a vast ocean. Most of our contemporary culture is positioned at the stern, reactively navigating the choppy, turbulent waters already stirred up by the vessel's passage. But the artist is called to sit at the bow and be the first to encounter the glass-smooth potential of the future; they are the ones who shape the wake and determine how the ship flows through the water.
I work with artists and creative communities to move them from the stern to the bow. My practice is dedicated to creating the spaces—physical, emotional, and spiritual—that allow for this prophetic shift from reaction to creation.
Curating and shaping Cultures of CARE
Inspired by the "Culture Care" philosophy of Makoto Fujimura and the spiritual insights of Wassily Kandinsky, I believe that art should do more than merely reflect our current moment; it should prefigure a new one. By engaging with contemplative practices and ancient wisdom, I help artists move past the reactive mode of modern output and reach into new places of intuition and creativity through joy and reflection.
My work focuses on building cultures of flourishing that look toward a vision of a restored, generative world. Whether I am curating a residency, designing a salon, or developing curricula and workshops, my goal is to provide the "spiritual architecture" necessary for artists to lead.
My Practice / Portfolio
A selection of projects and partnerships dedicated to moving the creative community to the bow of the ship:
Alpine Shire Council: Developed and implemented regional creative programs focused on both economic and community development. This work led to the founding of Alpine Regional Creatives (ARC), where I serve as Chair, ensuring a sustainable legacy of "Culture Care" and artist-led growth in the region.
Poatina Arts (Tasmania): As part of the plenary gatherings team, I co-design immersive, multi-sensory environments for their annual arts conference. This includes the curation of "sensory architectures" – such as the 2025 forest landscape installation – designed to facilitate a journey through contemplation, reflection, and prophetic action.
St Cath’s Arts Precinct: Co-founded a dedicated home for artists in Melbourne’s southern suburbs. We built a culture of flourishing through curated coworking environments and "Salons" that bridged the gap between musicians, poets, and visual artists.
Indigo Shire: Consulted on a governance overhaul for the community halls network, reimagining these historic assets as vital hubs for proactive creative engagement and civic connection.
The Riverbank: Co-convened this gathering place for artists alongside Heather Bradbury and Eugene Wong, focusing on the intersection of faith, intuition, and professional practice.
Anglican Diocese of Melbourne: Co-facilitated creative practice workshops designed to move participants into reflective, deep-work states through the integration of artistic expression and spiritual discipline.
Bright Art Gallery: Co-ordinating workshops and curating exhibitions
